If you run an amp which is not connected to speakers, that can surely damage the amp, as the charge has no output. As long as you have speakers hooked up, I can't see how leaving the amp on with no load would cause any damage.Break-in is surely preferable with a load, as it makes the parts vibrate which is part of the break-in process.
