Sadly, Russian and Chinese 5U4Gs are GUANO. They are known to arc over under conditions that are well within spec.Scarce US made 1940s vintage 5U4Gs may very well be best sounding. However, 5U4GBs by TungSol, RCA, and GE are GOOD sounding, TOUGH, and the price tag is not yet stratospheric.
An open question stands about the relatively recent Russian entry in the 5U4GB "sweepstakes". I'd like to see some feedback on the "new" tube. Hopefully, it will be positive, as a decent current production 5U4 is badly needed.
