No much argument from me on your observations. Obviously much depends on the equipment you are using them in as well as your expectations. I happen to like the EI's (including the grey plate Elite) if you screen out the bummers. I have not found them bright but I do think, compared to EH's that they would. The EH has a bigger bass which would tilt its tone. I don't don't find the EH as smooth as the EI. But I use both in different components.I have tried the JJ's - and I've found no reason to use them. They are not a smooth as the EI's but they're OK. I've had several early failures. The Sovteks are, well, Sovteks.
