Hi Dave,I have some.
I really don't know what to think. The ones I have are an odd little thing -- gold plated pins and sandblasted glass. The sandblasted glass makes me suspicious! Are they hiding the structure of the tube and therefore it's origin? Does give it a unique look.
I acquired them from a friend who gave up all his tube gear. (Cold turkey - shudder!) That was around 1991. Makes me suspect that they were sourced from the same plants as RAM or Golden Dragon or other contempories. So, are they Russian, Chinese, or Yugoslavian? The sandblasted finish makes it hard to tell. Perhaps they buy hundreds and select the best like Roger Mojeski of RAM did, and then put a boutique finish on to increase market appeal. I don't know.
How do they sound? They are OK. I really don't use them. Sound a bit lifeless and dull to me. Didn't work in my gear as well as old Telefunkens or Amperex.
But I can't say anything about what you might get these days from Allegro Sound.
For 12AX7, I like the old Telefunken ribbed plate. I also like the Amperex Holland Bugle Boy in some circuits. A real surprise is the later vintage RCA. I bought several new looking pulls from a old radio store for a buck a piece. They're really good! Personally, I would not pay big dollars for tubes when you can get good stuff for reasonable prices. The new production tubes from Electro Harmonix and Shuguang are good and CHEAP.
I sent you email.
Best regards,
Dale.
