I have a Scott 299(A), which is "designed" for 7189. At least, that is what the original tube layout sticker calls for. I've used GE 7189A's in it for two years without any problem. They sound nice, too.The 7189 is simply a higher-current version of 6BQ5. It is supposedly meant to take 400 to 440 volts, whereas the 6BQ5 is not designed to take much over 300. But - as a previous poster pointed out, some people use them interchangably without trouble. I've never tried a 6BQ5. The 7189A does have internal differences, but in my experience it's not a problem in the Scott.
