I have a Dyna Stereo 70 with the Welborne Labs/Alan Kimmel constant current driver board (uses 5751's and 6U8A's). To date, I've been unhappy with any of the current production EL34's, and I've tried all of them except the Groove Tubes.I was resigning myself to hoarding Mullard$$. But the JJ EL-77's may have saved the day for me. The character I most appreciate in the Mullards (in this circuit--YMMV) is their immediacy, "there-ness" or palpability, whatever ya' call it. I've been willing to put up with their overly romantic character to get it. Nothing else has delivered, until now.
After just a few days, I'd have to say the JJ EL-77's show every sign of being a better tube for this application. They have a more neutral signature, but at the same time, they give female vocalists and strings that "real" sound without the SOVTEK/SED edge.
Oh, and I got them two days after I placed the order. Great service!
No connection to Eurotubes, other than a satisfied customer (I like my JJ EL84's too in my Eico HF-81).
