Many, many manufacturers have made KT88s. Some are great; some suck. Also, even the very best makers will turn out a dud now and then--simple law of averages. Please post what BRAND of KT88 you are referring to and that will help very much-- overall, though, a KT88 without defect will last 2000-10,000+++ hours of usage, depending on voltages, manufacturer etc. If you've had a failure in only a month or two, for example, that was most likely a dud.... but again, that is a broad generalization.
