Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
About 5 years ago I purchased a Fisher 400x from Paul at Bizzy Bee for use primarily with Quad 57's and occasionally with early 16 ohm JBL S7's. Paul crafted a 15 watt/channel power amp section using Electro-Harmonix EL34EH's in triode mode. Fantastic sound from this unit...far superior to the Marantz 7 and 9's I had been using. Anyway, one tube is now on it's death bed and before buying a new set of the same, I thought I'd inquire of the wise sages here at the Asylum who may be able to offer some advice. I don't hear highs any more...not above 9,000HZ, so that's not a concern. If I had my druthers, I'd probably wish for a tube that would "tighten up" the bass a bit while preserving a delicate midrange. All opinions welcome.
