They sit in depressions on the ceramic at the top of the tubes and seem to extend through it into the filaments. I do suspect that they support the filaments by cannot understand why their spring is above where they attach to the filaments.. All of this is probably irrelevant as I would not try them in an amp and have no way to test them away from the amps. I is hard to just throw away such a big tube.
