Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Dear members,I am a newbie here and also a new audiophile although I am a professional jazz musician . I have been trying to assemble a system on a budget (listed in the system's page) and I am using a CAL Aria Mark III CD player that I am happy with.
It uses 2 6922 type tubes. I have been reading the archives and experimenting with so far: Amperex Orange Globe 6DJ8, large getter Bugle Boys 6DJ8, old Mullard 6DJ8 and Amperex Orange A-frame 6DJ8. I have some dutch Amperex 7308 on the way.
So far, I really like the clarity and bass of the Amperex A-frame but they do get a little too bright for me. The Bugle Boys, and even more so the Mullard, while pleasingly warm and great for some CDs, sound to me a little unclear and soft. I wish I could have something in between, which the Amperex 7308 might turn out to be.
However, meanwhile and in general, is it possible to use one of each, let's say the A-frame and the BB? I am not sure what functions the tubes have in this CD player, I believe they are used in the output stage.
Any information or suggestion would be very much appreciated. Many Thanks!
Jerome
