Re: Almarro A205A Mk II -- Too Much Gain

William, I too am experiencing the same issue with an Almarro a205a mkii that i got a few weeks ago. I even posted a couple of new threads over on SET (realizing that it is actually a SEP) and on the tubes/diy. After doing a little research i purchased a cryo-ed NOS GE Jan 5751 for an input tube to try and reduce the gain. Although it does sound better than the stock tube (a bit more decay...seems to slow things down in a good way) it made no difference with the gain issue. Now I am considering replacing the stock volume pot with a DACT of a different value but dont know which model/version to use???? Also am thinking about replacing stock capacitors with some V-caps but cant get definitive value options for the MKii version. By the way although i am still probably in the "burn in" stage(both for the amp and the tubes) the various tubes that i have tried did not make a huge difference(nos sylvania 7189 and cryo-ed EI EL84). Actually thought the input NOS GE 5751 made a bigger impact on sound. Thanks all.
