As a tube is used, the getter flash certainly does appear to go away/disappear/get consumed. Just watch what happens to the getter flash over a tube's usage life. Output tubes, like 6550s/KT88s for example, seem to display this getter consumption more obviouly than small signal tubes. Or, watch what happens to it when a tube envelope is damaged/compromised and air enters the tube. VERY quickly the getter flash turns white'ish (having oxidized/combined with other materials?) and/or also reduces in the apparent amount on the inside of the tube envelope. Exactly where does it go/what's the exact chemistry here? Fine question.- SJ
