The best way to determine if you need to change your tubes is to keep a spare set of new tubes around. Swap them in and see if the sound changes, becomes stronger and more dynamic. If it does, you need new tubes. If the swap does not change the sound much, just put the old tubes back in and try again in a few months.You never "need" to change tubes unless they stop playing, they will go on for countless hours still doing something, but not sounding as good as they could. Small signal tubes will not wreck anything even if left in for 100,000 hours.
