Hi Don,

Well if you use a tube recitfier it wouldn't be hard to test your theory. Try swapping in a rectifier with a larger voltage drop. For example, if your amp uses a 5AR4 recitifier, try a 5U4 or a 5R4 to lower the B+.

Another idea: The sound you describe might be helped by the addition of a "grid stopper" resistor in front of each output tube. Ask your designer. Some people use grid stoppers on every tube; some almost never use them. I have found that 6550 can sound bright and spitty without a grid stopper. Try a 1K carbon comp soldered very close to the grid of the 6550.

From my experience 10 volts either way for B+ won't change the sound of an amp.
