I'll especially support the chasing-one's-tail part. I recently bought a new pair of ASL Hurricanes, and I've been playing with 6SN7s, their 3-each frontend tubes. Since this tube has been made since the 1930s and since lots of companies rebranded other-brand tubes and also since each company changed their designs sometimes often, there must be many-hundreds of variations. With the help of 2 GEA friends, I've settled on 2 brands/types and am quite happy with the amps, expecially with new coupling caps--and with more improvements to come.
