SED vs Svet EL34

It does get very confusing to explain. May be side by side picture will help. Above is a picture of St. Petersburg vs New Sensor EL34s.

From left to right:

Left: St. Petersburg SED EL34 pre-2003 production.
Date code 0005
Tube has "S" logo, two saucer getters facing diagonally upward (getter has 'split in the middle hair' look to it)

Middle: Current St. Petersburg SED EL34, post-2003 production
Date code 0524
Tube has Winged-C logo, two saucer getters facing upward.

Right: Current New Sensor Svetlana EL34
Date code 0209
Tube has "S" logo, single halo getter ring.

What makes it confusing is, logo for left and right are the same, and the box for left and right are very close. You can't just rely on tube logo and boxes.

If you are exclaiming, "so how do you tell NS Svet EL34 and SED EL34 apart?!", there is an easy way.

Note the edges of the plate boxes. New Sensor Svetlana EL34 has plate boxes that are crimped together rather than spot welded.

New Sensor Svetlana EL34 is also noticeably heavier due to much heavier glass. This makes it surprisingly obvious when you hold one in your hand.

Of course, NS may change how Svet EL34 is put together (for example, Mullard RI EL34 has gone through a couple of visually obvious revisions already), but this is how I tell them apart. For now.
