Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

My, how times have changed.

I remember eight or so years ago when folks were dumping all over the KT-90 relative to others then available. The few of us who liked the Ei were voices in the wilderness. I recall Kevin Deal as one of the earliest KT-90 proponents. Some vendors were running regular "sales" to move sluggish inventory. Ned would give you all you wanted, matched however you liked, at bargain prices.

I remember offering one gentleman a brand new matched quad of early IIIs (that sounded glorious) with an amp I was selling, but he insisted on the tired and thin sounding Svet 6550s that were in it. He would have nothing at all to do with a "converted TV tube".

How times have changed. Two hundred dollars for a USED quad of IIs?

I packed a number of tested and matched new quads of early IIIs into my long-term stash long before the KT-90 became the valve celeb and production tanked. There they've sat, safe and untouched for about seven years now.

NIB, quad-matched, tested early IIIs . . . I wonder what they would now fetch on ebay? Maybe the gentleman with the tired Svets would now be interested in these "TV tubes"?
