Other brands have it too - even the new GT "Mullard clones" do it. Sometimes tubes do it but you can't see because not much of the heater is exposed. Not all do it, but many tubes do.Why? Who knows? Availability of the wire, durability, cost... any of those could be a factor. There's no particular merit to it or not doing it.
