High gain = low negative feedback. Feedback increases by 6db at each setting with 6db being the lowest setting (and highest gain). I believe the available voltage gain at this setting is somewhere around 36db making the RM9 the perfect match for a low gain preamp or passive design. I use mine with a TVC with very good results.I very much prefer the lowest feedback setting. More dynamics and drive. As feedback increases there is a slight haze over the music. Nothing dramatic, but noticeable nonetheless.
