I have owned both the D70 and TVA-10, the TVA-1 as well. The TVA-1 and 10 were my first tube amps.Really no comparison IMO. The D70 handily bests both of these amps in every area of performance. Better at the extremes, vastly better resolution and focus, and certainly far more reliable than the TVA-1. The soundstage and dimensional image is amazing with the D70.
I have posted many times on the unreliability of the TVA-1. The TVA-10 was a more reliable amp. I never had a failure. Sonically I prefered the TVA-1; more robust and powerful presentation. It has less of the euphonic tube colorations versus the TVA-10. Probably a function of the different output stage; KT88 for the TVA-1 versus the EL34 of the TVA-10.
Michaelson&Austin is long gone; you are on your own with these amps for the most part. ARC is still going strong and will probably still be around in another 30 years. You have some support for the D70.
Unless the TVA-10 is mint and cheap, i.e. less than $500US, I would pass. If it has never been serviced it will need some attention. Same for the D70. All these amps are getting quite old. You will not regret the D70 purchase if you like the ARC house sound of that era. It is one of their best efforts IMO. And I believe a better long-term investment, i.e. $$$$ in the long-term if that is important.
