I was going to prove that the Bellari was revealing of tube quality by putting in a Sovtek 12ax7wa which was the worst tube I've ever heard in my other preamp. When I just now put it in the Bellari it even sounds very good. I think that because the Bellari has a very different operating point to it's 12ax7 one can't generalize.
So, try lots of different tubes in it. It's so easy to do!
I also found that the volume control has a sweet spot, about 1:00 on mine.
