The transformer still has the 4, 8, and 16 ohm taps. I have limited knowledge on the design of transformers but I do understand the basic electromagnetic principles. I belive the primaries of both would be identical, I will have to measure to be sure. Its the secondary that concerns me. Is the 70v tap just that, an additional tap on the windings of a stock A431. Or is it a totally seperate winding from the 4, 8, 16 winding? If it is the former and just a tap into the windings I agree that it will be a sonic equal to a standard A431 as core, wire guage, turns and technique all remain equal between both models. If it is the latter with an additional physical winding, where did they fit the winding? Was the core, wire guage, turns or tecnique sacrificed to make room for more windings? I dont byu into the notion that the additional winding will cause any capacitance or induction to affect the sonics, I just need to know that the core and main windings are the same.
