The ferrite bead goes around one of the wires on the 9 pin socket to reduce the osc. on these very high transconductance tubes. Only the D models with the extra test position have these. I understand that the earlier models can be modified to perform this test, though I am not 100% sure this is true. You might try a NOS tube at a lower setting and find a number you like for comparison with other tubes.
