Sounds like fun. I second (or third) the suggestion to try the CBS or CBS/Hytron 5814 from about the late 50's or earlier. These are wonderful tubes. Also, try an early to mid 50's Raytheon 5814 if you can find a pair. Oh, and the TungSol black glass 12au7's are really good as well in my system. If you keep an eye out all of these can be had for reasonable prices and are worth trying.cheers,
