Re: New Production 6DJ8 / ECC88 / 6922 Tubes?

You can try the NOS russian 6H23n(pi)-EB (or EV). Some of the reputable dealers have these that are better sounding than then new production Sovteks. But you need to find a reputable dealer who has done his own listening tests with these. I have picked up some of these on ebay and they are hit and miss. Personally, I don't think that the Ei's are too bad, neither are the JJ's . I have a couple of CD players that use this type and I could live with the Ei's and JJ's as well as those NOS Russian tubes. But I have compiled a few Amperex bugle boy and other Amperex 6dj8 and 6922's for very cheap off of ebay. I was surprised to get them for what I did but with patience and an auction that ends mid week instead of weekend and you can still get some good deals. I think I have 6 or 8 amperex 6dj8's and 6922's and would venture to guess that I paid an average of under $10 per tube. With the way that my CD players utilize the tubes, those few that I have will likely last my lifetime.
But I think it's worth trying the curerent production Ei's and JJ's ... they are inexpensive enough to try for yourself and you can always keep them as spares.
