Any tricks to substituting 12AX7 with 6SL7 ? Help!

Dear All

I am trying out a box full of NOS 6SL7 on my DIY EAR834P phono stage on the input valve.

There is hardly any loss in volume even though 6SL7s are 70 mu compared to 12AX7's 100.

I have tried several VT229 including some famous Sylvanias, RCA, Tungsol, National U, Kenrad, and also some normal 6SL7GT, including some Brimars and a Mullard ECC35.

Somehow they tend to sound lean and and do not have much spatial details.

Plate is 330K and Cathode is 2k2. Plate voltage is about 95V.

Any assistance or comments would be appreciated.

Cheers
