The 12AT7 flashed only if you didn't turn on the preamp for a long time. Other wise it won't.
After i got my SP MKII, I did changed the two big power supply capacitors in front of the transformer, I also changed the two power supply capacitors under PC board (you need to open the bottom plate to see it). It preformed perfectly since. I believe you need to replace the four power supply capacitors since it is a old preamp and the capacitors most likely already drying up. FYI; I bought the four capacitors from Jim Mcshane and it is easy to replace it.
