I have used several vintage tubes in my Hagerman Cornet phono stage, each delivering a different sonic flavor. Recently I bought a pair of current production Sovtek 12AX7LPS at a local guitar amp shop to test. After about 20 hours they really settled down, opened up and made serious music. Now I have well over fifty hours on them and they are definite winners in my system. They do everything right, are very quiet and also seem to have a bit more gain (play louder). Bass is full and rich, mids are lush and the top end is well extended without being brittle or harsh. (I hate writing things like that ;-))For about $10 each, everyone ought to give them a try.
