30hz-15khz RMS continuous---That's reasonably wideband and exceeds my estimate of 275 which was a midband, long term peak estimate, not RMS. DePalma goes on to say 20-20,000 RMS 200 watts is easily obtainable continuously from A440/441. I suspect full bandwidth longterm peaks of 250 or so are well within reach. But this is moot. I don't give a toss if it's 200 or 300; with a damper diode tube supply it will outperform many 350 watt amps as far as usable power; if it can go 300 watts RMS continuous as measured from 30-15,000 this is clearly a monster amp. But that wasn't my point anyway. I am DIY'ing it because I make $7.75 an hour and will likely have to save for 9 months to get the parts, and that is with a friend price on the Dyna iron, Vitamin Q caps for $1, ASC 100uf/630VDC caps I will series/parallel ($8 each; I know a distributor)and free carbon comps and octal sockets from 1950s surplus stuff that was never used. Check those carbon comps for drift, check the Vit Qs for small DC leakage, and away we go! I can bring this in for under $1000. The second reason is that I can use 1940s 1625s @$5 each, or 1960s 6146Ws@$15 each and get very close to TungSol blackplate 6550 sound (those WWII 807s and the 12 volt version 807--the 1625-- are incredible audio tubes) SO, I can tube these up for around $100, not $2000 or whatever the popular big power audio tubes fetch. I'm also thinking 1960s PL509s would be nice; but that is the beautiful thig here--- I have unlimited choices of the finest tubes in existence because I am not forced to use the same plate and screen voltage. CHEERS!
