I agree about CBS/Raytheon 5814a being more relaxed alternatives to Siemens 5814a, but in all honesty, if Siemens 5814a doesn't sound right, something else in system may need to be 'tweaked' a little. Have you tried Herbie tube dampers?Also, if you like Mullard type of midrange, none else will give you that exact sound. In that case, I recommend the plain-Jane Mullard ecc82, which I prefer over Mullard CV4003 or the "M" variants.
