The getter is the getter is the getter. Whether the getter material is wire, pill, tab, disc, or vaporized over a large area it is still a getter. The larger the surface area (thats why they vaporized it)the higher the pumping (gettering) speed and hence the more effective it is.
Note that yur beloved tubes are always leaking and at some point will leak faster then the getter can pump and at that point we say, say la vi.
