The SED "real" Svetlana (winged C) 6L6GC is one of the finest current production power tubes. It has very nice treble. The various Shuguang black plate versions of 6L6GC are said to be nice-- I've heard only one version(there are 3; one based on the GE plate stucture ((tho the real GE was greyplate!)), one based on late version RCA, and one based on the Sylvania STR version. These are all supposed to be nice too; maybe even nicer than the Svetlana. Probably best of all is the Shuguang KT66 GEC copy with the brown base. Looks and sounds almost like the real thing for under $100/quad. Look no further. BTW-- my favorite current production power tubes: 1. GEC copy Shuguang KT88 2. Ei KT90 3. Shuguang EL156 4. SED Svetlana 6550C 5. SED Svetlana 6L6GC 6. Shuguang GEC copy KT66 This begs the question, WHERE the HELL is the good EL34 or a Shuguang GEC KT77 copy?!? I have tried ALL current production EL34 and all sound quite bland compared to NOS, whereas the tubes from the favs list above are quite competitive sonically with NOS. WHERE'S MY EL34?
