Re: Distortion from EAR 834P. Bad tubes?

No, the loading is not adjustable. The MC/MM gain is a switch setting. Not much good in the MM setting.

Other changes: a brand new MG-1 air bearing tonearm and a ZYX R-100H cartridge. Before that I have a DIY air bearing arm (sort of a ET2 clone) and an ancient Audio Technica cartridge. I was having massive distortion problems with that rig, which I attributed to too much horizontal effective mass on the arm and the AT being worn-out. My first hunch was that the ZYX was not quite set up correctly, but when I switched to the Dennessen preamp and the distortion went away I started suspecting otherwise.
