Thanks Ed for your thoughts. I don't use 300B and certainly have no direct experience with WE 300B new or old! Given all the effort that went into the new product I have viewed some comments regarding the new production with some skepticism.I have read your review on the 845 and it indeeds appears to be one beautiful valve!
New production can be good indeed. I personally love the Ei KT-90 and find it stands up as well as any of the highly touted NOS alternatives. If price was not an issue I imagine I would go with the KT-90 versus the alternatives.
Older production has no inherent magic. It simply came from a time when tubes were the norm and manufacter of superior product was well understood. Some of this knowledge has certainly been lost along the way and unlikely to be replicated. But that does not mean we cannot still have excellent tubes and there are many good examples that demonstrate the point.
