I have four 30-YO Audio Concepts AC7 woofers (an OEM version of Vifa C17), whose foam surrounds are getting brittle and starting to split.
I have refoamed a dozen or so paper cone woofers in the past, but these have "doped cellulose" cones that look like shiny black plastic. So should I use Nitrile or some other adhesive instead of latex type?
The dust caps appear to join the center of the cone at the same point as the voice coil. Is there a safe way to remove the dust caps (to insert shims) without damaging the cone-to-voice coil juncture?
The surrounds themselves appear to join the outer rim of the cone without an overlapping "lip" -- the inside edge of the roll seems connected directly to the cone edge. Not sure how they did this -- guess I'll find out when I remove the old surrounds. The replacements will probably have an overlap to glue to the cone.
I'll be ordering replacement surround kits shortly, but would appreciate some advice from someone familiar with repairing Vifa drivers. TIA.
