RE: looks like time to "go for it"

The Spendor S series and the Dynaudio Focus series share very little in common with one another. If your range of music is mostly acoustic, jazz, and rock - and tend to favor a lush mid-range, Spendor is a great choice. In fact, in this price-range, I'd bypass the S series completely and go right for the SP 3/1P from their classic series. Those particular monitors some exceptional music makers.

The Focus series by contrast are much more versatile not only in the variety of music they can play well, but also in the types of electronics they can be paired with. Between their greater dynamic range and and excellent power handling - they have a very good sound that is easy to enjoy.

I'd also like to throw in a side mention for the ACI Sapphire XL. It's a speaker that falls squarely right in between the virtues of both speakers - being extremely versatile with a lot of warmth and tone.

Choosing these speakers boils right down to your preferences and living conditions. Trying to determine an inherently better product is like splitting hairs. Either way you go, its hard to lose.
