Sounds like a good scenario. For modern speakers, get a high efficiency speaker like mine, with Vifa/Scanspeak components and ideally a smooth 4 ohm load. That music sounds wonderful in my modest main system but also on my mix and match set (see profile). I also listen to 70-90's rock on both analog and digital sources and Christian pop/rock, but nothing hard.
My Whatmoughs are basically unavailable in US. One of the asylum members manufactures speakers per one's desires, but similar to what you might like or what I have. Email me.

Depends on what you prefer, but I would think auditioning some of those favored on this board (too many varieties to say--KEF, Epos, Athena, KLH, JBL or Klipsch are mentioned here or on vintage) would help, or if you could hear stacked Advents or Bozaks of the right size.
