You can make Quads ELS 63 work for you, it just takes a little time and effort - see my 'listening room' in inmate systems.
My preference is for tube amps but I have heard them with big Krells and Meridians s/s sounding really good.
If you buy/own a pair then its worth sending them to Germany for the upgrades and searching for a pair of Gradient subwoofers, which give that base feel which is otherwise missing.
I have even improved Quad 989's by mounting them on the Gradient subs, as even with the additional base ring panel on that model it is still lacking a little.
It's also worth remembering that early Quads were designed for use in smaller European homes without wooden cavity walls to soak up the reflections. Minimum rear distance is 3ft. but don't be concerned if that puts them closer to listening position as they are a point source and the soundstage width doesn't deteriorate.
