I understand how someone might conclude the Golds sound slow and plodding. They are a polite sounding loudspeaker with dry highs, a somewhat crunched midrange and they attempt to have an articulate bass response. They play very loud and have an extended and powerful (but etched) bass response. I don't really like their mix of virtues and IMO they are well suited to be a video monitor but not a 2 channel music speaker.
