The 21L is a 12L with a tad more, but not much more bass. The 22L is about 86 dB efficient. If your amp is more than 50 Wpc and very sensitive and your preamp has a lot of gain, you will blast yourself out of the room with almost any speaker! The 22L can play softly with the right equipment. It's a lovely-sounding speaker for the price. I am a Quad 12L owner.
