Most vintage gear handle 4 Ohm loads well. It's the modern midfi receivers that have the problems, due to undersized power supplies and low steady-state current capacity. Also, the monolithic output stages now popular require more heat sinking for a 4 Ohm load than they usually get and can go into thermal overload facing low impedances.
