Know what you mean. I have a Song SA34 4 watt SET. The source I use with it is a TV with cable feed, and Omega grande 8 speakers. sound is lively and I like it. I tried using the Song with Marten Design speakers, and the sound did nothing for me. simply not enough power.
I'd like to try something different with the Song, but at 4 watts speaker selection is limited.
Point is getting the little SET amp was just to improve the sound frome the tv. Then I liked it so much I need to follow its' path.
