Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Excellent advice.

I use more than just a couple of CDs, though, even though one of those I use is a classical sampler.

I would add a couple of tips:

In a store or even a show, if the speakers are not well set up, try to have them to set them up properly.

If a dealer won't allow a home trial or equivalent (i.e., 30 day return period), go elsewhere. While it is possible to tell a lot about a speaker in a showroom or listening room, especially from the midrange on up, it is difficult to predict how it will react with the listening room at home. Also, with a home trial, one can play lots of different recordings and adjust the placement of the speakers.
