I am very intrigued and impressed by the sound of medium powered Single Ended Triode amplifiers and would like to audition a few with my Merlin VSM-MM speakers. My listening room is 15 x 18 with a standard 8 foot ceiling and I listen to all kinds of music with the exception of full scale classical. I listen at what I consider a medium level. I know that the Merlin’s are relatively efficient with an 89db rating, and the Merlin website recommends tube amp with more than 17 watts, but I would like to gather some first hand field experience and opinions on the Merlin/SET combination. The SET amps that I am considering range in power output of 20 to 50 watts Class A.
