. . . that much of this business about things such as "super tweeters" adding "air" stems from those tweeters not being employed with steep crossovers, as they probably should be.

With a gentle crossover or no crossover at all, I suspect that those folks are simply hearing the bottom of the super tweeter's range overlapping with the regular tweeter, brightening up the sound right in the (nominally) audible range. I also suspect that most folks turn the thing up until they hear it--under 20kHz, of course.

Damned expensive treble control, if you ask me!

I'm convinced of the benefits of wide bandwidth in preamps and amps, but with speakers I think the jury is still out.
