i actually found these in the local classifieds but couldn't find any info on them. all i found was some old article pitting them against a pair of apogee caliper sigs, so i guess they were pretty expensive in their day. i have too many speakers and my friend is a tannoy nut so i forwarded the ad to him. he bought them for $230.i've heard tannoy monitor gold 12" in the smaller cabinets (forget the name). stock crossovers. i didn't like them, but i was using mcintosh MC60s. so, they would probablly sound better on some lower powered amps. and the old crossover probably didn't help matters.
anyway, my friend also has some raw tannoy monitor silver 12". has also had monitor red 12" and 15". point being he's heard lots of vintage dual concentrics.
i gotta be honest, we fired of the DC3000 on my same system (the MC60s) and sounded quite lovely. basically have that tannoy horn DC sound but not quite as ragged up top as i remember the vintage ones sounding and the DC3000 THUMP with separate woofer in an isolated emclosure.
they are biampable so that's really cool. they are only 92db sensitive. still good, but not as great as the older monitor series. so, you can run something like mac MC75's down low and a single ended jobby up top.
dont knock the later DC unless you try 'em. they still sound like tannoys to my ears ;-) nice cabinets too. if you rap on them, they sound deader than my KEF Calindas. not quite as dead as my KEF 104/2, but the build quality on the 104/2 is pretty insane.
