tv has had a lot to do with crushing regional pronunciations. I believe it's always been "rout" where I'm from.One that drives me crazy is the transplants that pronounce Leicester as "Lee-sester." When Foghat played a club on Leicester highway in Asheville, Lonesome Dave gave an on air lecture about the widespread mispronunciation in the area.
