Now Joe is a true Aussie legend having been playing for 40 years. But don't let that put you off!
He has had any number of bands over the years, perhaps most famously The Black Sorrows, but let me tell you about The Revelators. I saw them at the Woodford Folk Festival (woodfordfolkfestival.com) afew years ago and I have never NEVER seen a finer performance of that blues/country/r'n'b/soul crossover including The Stones in their swaggering prime.
Imagine The Stones in about 71/72 with Van Morrison singing and you have the barest idea of how good they were. Like Van's voice never thickened and lost range, which is extraordinary considering he is now 58.
Now if you can find a copy I would suggest Floating Bridge; Live at The Basement as a more than acceptable place to start.
It starts out like the Van album that went missing around Veedon Fleece and gets bluesed up from there. This is an up close and personal recording full of texture and menace. Hearing them cover Van's (sorry to keep mentioning him but its unavoidable) Beside You (and hardly anyone covers anything from Astral Weeks!) is to hear the song possessed, hang on, I'm playing the disc now and I know what it reminds me of... Little Feat at their down and dirtiest.
Damn I am rambling.
