Kim Kowley, whose father Douglas Fowley was in Singin In The Rain, was and has been a prime mover of rock'n'roll, pop and rock in LA for half a century whilst consciously staying on the edges of the public's peripheral vision.
He recorded with Sandy Nelson, Produces Skip(Batin) and Flip, released Alley Oooop and Papa Oom Mow Mow and Nut Rocker under different names, did PR for PJ Proby, appeared on Zappa's Freak Out, wrote for The Byrds, put together The Runaways. If ever there was a man who could have equalled Phil Spector's weirdness this was probably him and if ever a book about about a music biz insider was justified then I can think of no finer a candidate than Kim.
Many of his secret hits are collected on a disc called Mundo Hollywood: Kim Fowley's Phantom Jukebox
If you see it, hear it.
He always said he did it for the girls, the fun and to confuse people).
He still seems to record... 3 discs came out in 2004, most of which seem to be one-off collaborations with other writers.
I have never seen them.
