I don't think that anyone except Ringo and Paul could say exactly what the nature of their relationship is today. Obvious, I know, but that being said, there was some animosity between them, as mhardy6677 notes. Remember, Ringo left the Beatles for approximately three weeks in the summer of '68, and during his absence, Paul played the drums on "Back in the USSR" and "Dear Prudence." It has been suggested that Paul was very very particular about what Ringo played on his songs. (And correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that Paul playing the skins on at least part of "Ticket to Ride"?)Also, when Paul announced he was going to release his first solo album on April 10th, 1970, the other Beatles felt it would conflict too much with the upcoming release of "Let It Be." Ringo went to visit Paul and ask him to delay the release of his solo album until after "Let It Be" came out. Apparently Paul took serious exception to this request and pushed Ringo against a wall and swore at him. Legal manuverings between the Beatles in 70-72 couldn't have helped matters.Still, there was Paul with a song and his bass guitar on Ringo's first solo album in 1973, and since then the two have occassionally guested on each other's albums. Ringo also has made an appearance or two in Paul's videos (he did the same for George, as well). The postcard book by Ringo shows that they have stayed in touch better than I have with the friends I had in my youth, so I am hopeful that they get along at least as well as me and my friends from those days do when we get together, which we do occassionally.
BTW, "Macca" is a nickname for McCartney that was especially popular (at least in the States) in the seventies and early eighties.
Sorry for any misspellings, etc., I have been grading 7th grade Social Studies projects and fielding calls from anxious mothers all day long!
Take care and have fun!
